Four people in an organized ring that pilfered purses for identification and checkbooks have been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Augusta.
The gang from Florida traveled to the Augusta area to target places such as gyms and parks looking for purses left behind in vehicles. After stealing IDs and checkbooks, its members would send women to banks to cash victims’ checks.
Kimberly Brogdon, 28, was sentenced last week to 36 months in prison, and she must pay $21,300 in restitution while serving five additional years on probation. Jerrold D. Harrison, 30, was sentenced to serve 87 months in prison and pay $16,500 in restitution while serving five additional years on probation. Johnny A. Hodges, 40, was sentenced to time served, about 14 months, and fined $1,500. Jessica R. Bryant, 34, was sentenced to serve 32 months in prison and pay $2,500 in restitution and serve five years on probation.
