Aiken man charged in 2-year-old's death

Ivory James Blackshire, 28, is charged with homicide by child abuse.

An Aiken man arrested after police investigated a 2-year-old boy’s injuries is now facing homicide charges after the child’s death.

Aiken County sheriff’s investigators arrested Ivory James Blackshire, 28, last week on a charge of inflicting great bodily injury to a child, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.

On Thursday, deputies were dispatched to Dallas Circle to assist emergency medical services after a call from Blackshire. The boy was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers and later to Georgia Regents Medical Center. Blackshire was arrested after investigators were called to inspect the child’s injuries.

Investigators amended the charge to homicide by child abuse after the boy’s death. Blackshire is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
