Suspects in Augusta man's shooting referred to grand jury

LOUISVILLE, Ga. — A preliminary hearing was held Friday for the 12 suspects charged in the June slaying of an Augusta man.


After hearing testimony from witnesses, Superior Court Judge Robert Reeves found probable cause to refer each defendant’s case to the grand jury in the fatal shooting of Kenneth Quarterman Jr. Another man, Lewis Charles Brown III, was wounded in the June 16 drive-by shooting.

All were denied bond except Dontavius Tramez Meadows, aka “T”. His bond was set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 property.

The other defendants are Barrington Jermaine Allen, aka “AJ” or “Rude boi”; Ivey Lamar Elam; Shinique L. Flournoy, aka “Nek”; Octavius Desmond Hickson, aka “Tay Tay”; Darius Sergio Jackson, aka “Sergio”; Rajonte Romelle McGruder, aka “RO”; Damien V. Simpkins, aka “Bam”; Dalonte Jerrod Tarver, aka “Blac Boss” or “Big J”; Jason Robert Williams, aka “J-Will”; Jayrin Anthony Williams, aka “Webbie”; Lafayell Deshon Williams, aka “Smooch”.

All the defendants have been in custody since their arrests and each is charged with murder. They have also been charged with one count each of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, participating in criminal gang activity, conspiracy to commit a crime, and two counts each of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.

The drive-by shooting happened in the 500 block of East 5th Street in Louisville.
