Augusta man robbed at gunpoint

An Augusta man says he was robbed at gunpoint after an unknown man asked to borrow a cigarette lighter Friday afternoon.

About 2:27 p.m., Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 3300 block of Old Louisville Road, where Martin Rosier said a black man stopped next to him in a black car and asked to borrow a lighter, according to an incident report.

When the man got out of the vehicle, he brandished a black handgun and demanded money. Rosier said a struggle ensued, during which he was hit over the head several times with the pistol.

The suspect, dressed in all black with shoulder-length dreadlocks, then stole Rosier’s wallet before heading north on Old Louisville Road.

Rosier sustained a wound to the top of his head, but refused medical treatment.
