Burglar took cigarettes, police told

Police are searching for a man who broke into Family Dollar on Milledgeville Road on Sunday morning and stole 30 packs of cigarettes.

According to a police report, the alarm was activated at the store, 2310 Milledgeville Road, about 5 a.m.

After reviewing surveillance video, police learned a black male in a black hat tried to pry the lock on the front door. He walked away and returned about four times before gaining entry with a tire iron.

Police said the burglar went directly to the cigarette case, which had been left open, and loaded packs of Newports into a shopping basket. He fled with the basket of cigarettes but left behind a tire iron, a metal pipe and a piece of cloth.

A store representative told police is was uncommon for the cigarette case to be left open. He said that in six weeks of opening the store, it had never been left unlocked.
