Sheriff's Office launches new Web site

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office launched its new Web site Thursday.

“This is another step toward interacting with the public through social media and improving transparency within the agency,” Sheriff Richard Roundtree said in a news release.

The Web site includes a phone directory, information on volunteer programs, employment opportunities and the hiring process, crime tips, officer memorials, links to registered sex offenders, online citation payment, and information on attaining police reports and other documentation.

“The current site allows for interaction with the public and dissemination of information as well as emergency alerts,” Lt. Lewis Blanchard said.

In the future, the sheriff’s office plans to develop an “opt in” program that will allow citizens to sign up for alerts.

Blanchard said the department continues to work closely with the county’s Information Technology department and 911 communications for future additions to the site.

Authorities believe the new Web site will be another addition that will allow for more information to be accessible to the public.
