Suspects, investigators identified in Martinez shooting

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect wounded Friday night by police.

Capt. Steve Morris said Terry Avery, 34, of Martinez, was the man shot in the arm by investigators at his home in the 1400 block of Collins Drive. He is being treated at Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Police charged him and three others, George Jones Jr., 62; Tervoirs Piere Curry, 29; and Terrance Deion Curry, 21, with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of Schedule II, III and IV narcotics. Terrance Curry was also charged with aggravated assault.

Morris said the incident took place about 5:30 p.m. Friday when narcotics investigators executed a search warrant on the Collins Drive residence. When officers arrived, Avery brandished a weapon and was shot by one of the investigators, police said.

Investigators Marquis Hagans, 34, and John Bentley, 39, were placed on administrative leave with pay, Morris said. Hagans has been with the sheriff’s office since June 2006, and Bentley was hired in January 2008.
