An Augusta beauty school student accused of trying to steal $800 from a classmate nearly evaded arrest Wednesday when a friend helped her break free from a patrol car, authorities say.
Taisa Monea Johnson, 21, of the 2000 block Lumpkin Road, faces a felony charge of obstruction of justice and two misdemeanor counts of theft and escape, according to an incident report.
Johnson became aggressive with a Richmond County deputy at Regina’s College of Beauty on Gordon Highway about 5 p.m., after she was spotted on surveillance video stealing a classmate’s purse, which contained $800, according to the report.
After the deputy put Johnson in a patrol car, Steen Daniell, 21, ran to the cruiser and opened the back door so Johnson could escape, according to the report.
When the deputy rushed to place Daniell in custody, Johnson got out of the vehicle and kicked the officer in the chest, the report said.
No injuries were reported. Johnson is in the Richmond County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. No charges were reported against Daniell.
