Bond set for Augusta man accused of child molestation

A $30,000 bond was set Friday for an Augusta man recently indicted on child molestation charges.

After a hearing in Richmond County Superior Court, Judge Daniel J. Craig set the bond for Khalid Franklin, 42. According to the indictment, he is accused of fondling one child in 2011 and another in 2006.

On Friday, however, the child in the 2006 case testified that there was no sexual contact and the sheriff investigator mistook what she said. Franklin’s attorney, Greg Leopard, told the judge that the 2011 allegation was investigated in July 2011 but no charges were brought until the sheriff’s investigator learned of another possible incident in 2006 and spoke to that child this year.
