The suspect in a March 7 sexual assault at a Paine College dorm is scheduled for arraignment next Friday on other charges.
Jarius R. Dantzler, 18, wasn’t indicted this week on charges related to that attack, but he was indicted in connection with two other attacks on women.
In the first indictment, Dantzler is charged with burglary and the attempted rape of another Paine College student Nov. 18.
The female student told investigators
she was in bed asleep when a man crawled into her bed with his pants down. He tried unsuccessfully to cover her face and fled when the student fought back, according to the indictment.
In the second case, Dantzler faces charges of armed robbery, burglary, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and cruelty to children.
The second indictment says that on Feb. 16, Dantzler broke into the Belmont Avenue home of a woman sleeping with her child next to her. The assailant crawled into bed with the woman and choked and beat her in front of her child before leaving with her purse.
Dantzler was arrested the day after a 22-year-old student was sexually assaulted in a restroom at a women’s dorm at Paine.
Sheriff’s spokeman Lt. Calvin Chew said in an e-mail Thursday that decisions on what charges are presented to the grand jury are the responsibility of the district attorney’s office.
District Attorney Ashley Wright said in an e-mail earlier in the week that it wasn’t proper to comment on a pending case. She expects the March attack case to go forward at another grand jury session.
