Police are searching for two men who stole a vehicle from Gordon Chevrolet on April 22.
According to police, the men drove to the dealership at 2031 Gordon Highway in a white Ford car shortly after 9 p.m. One man then entered the property and drove off in a red 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. A fence was damaged during the crime.
An employee at a surveillance company monitoring the business saw one of the men cut the chain to the fence and enter the property after appearing to work on the white car for some time. The surveillance supervisor attempted to call Richmond County dispatch several times to report the crime but only received busy signals.
Dominick Nutter, Augusta 911 Director, disputed the report of busy signals.
“The facts don’t support what was written,” he said. ”We dispatched at 9:14:57 p.m. We received the call at 9:14:35 p.m.” Nutter said 911 dispatched deputies to the scene and notified the property owner.
With the surveillance photo’s time stamp showing suspects at the scene moments earlier, at 9:10:51 p.m., “that’s about as fast as we can make it happen,” Nutter said.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 706-821-1020 or Investigator Billy Dixon at 706-821-1026.
