Girl's screams help scare away burglar

A screaming 17-year-old girl helped to scare away a burglar early Sunday, after he climbed through her bedroom window and told her: “Shh, don’t say anything.”

According to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, a dark-skinned black man attempted to climb through the unlocked window of a rear bedroom in the 2000 block of First Ave. about 6:35 a.m. Sunday.

The break-in awoke the girl, who began to scream. Her mother ran to the room, saying she had a gun, and the burglar fled.

Sheriff’s deputies found no signs of forced entry, fingerprints or footprints.
