Augusta man charged with arson in house fire

An Augusta man is charged with arson in connection with a blaze that destroyed a home early Saturday.

Justin Blake Hall, 23, was arrested Tuesday and charged with burglary and first degree arson, according to Richmond County sheriff’s records. Hall remained held without bond at the jail on Thursday.

The arrest stems from a fire that began about 2:50 a.m. Saturday at 621 Cambridge Road in the Brynwood subdivision. The homeowner, Janice Tierney told investigators she was asleep on the couch when she was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and discovered the front of the home was on fire.

Two of Tierney’s four pets perished in the blaze, which reduced the home to rubble. The fire investigator, Lt. Carlton Bradley determined that a “highly flammable accelerant” was used to start the fire, which he concluded was a case of arson.
