Man charged with having stolen gun

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Augusta man when they found him with a stolen firearm after a report of a drive-by shooting in an Augusta neighborhood.

Resnik Lathario Chance, 38, of 3605 Larkspur Drive, was charged Saturday possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor theft.

Deputies arrested Chance about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, shortly after receiving a report of a drive-by shooting in the 2400 block on Amsterdam Drive. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Deputies spotted two men standing outside a silver GMC Envoy, which matched the suspect vehicle’s description.

One deputy began to pat down Chance and saw the handgun in Chance’s waistband.

A criminal records check on Chance showed he was a convicted felon and that the gun had been stolen in Grovetown.
