Police said Tuesday that a North Augusta business, First Class Motorz, is not involved in an investigation into a multicounty motor vehicle theft ring that was operating on Belair Road.
Richmond County investigators said some employees of the business at 4040 Belair Road used an unmarked tow truck to steal disabled vehicles and later sell them to recycling and salvage yards.
A sign advertised the business as First Class Motorz, but Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew said that company, which was in the process of obtaining the building, did not occupy it at the time of the investigation. Global Auto Traders, a past occupant in the building, was using the building when the incidents occurred.
Four men linked to Global Auto Traders are facing charges connected to the crimes.
