Langley man, 23, dies in car wreck

A Langley man died in a car wreck late Wednesday.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Danny G. Chalker Jr., 23, was driving a Honda Accord on S.C. Highway 278 about 10 p.m. when it hit a telephone pole, went through a chain link fence and hit a tree.

The crash was discovered about 7:15 a.m. Chalker, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carlton said the vehicle rolled through several yards and one resident heard a loud noise about 10 p.m. but was not able to locate the source of the sound.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash. Toxicology results are pending. An autopsy is scheduled Saturday.

The death is Aiken County’s sixth traffic fatality this year.
