Girl shot in leg by stray bullet

A 12-year-old girl was shot Sunday after a neighbor attempted to shoot an opossum in his yard.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew, the girl was in her home on the 2200 block of Albemarle Drive around 8:30 p.m. when a bullet went through the exterior wall and struck her in the leg.

The girl was treated for the wound.

Keith Rasheim Patterson, 34, was charged with reckless conduct.

Patterson told police he was was shooting at an opossum in the chicken coop in his backyard. Police were able to verify Patterson’s story, Chew said.
