Investigation continues in weekend McDuffie slaying

THOMSON — An autopsy was conducted Monday in Atlanta on the body of a McDuffie County man killed Saturday in Thomson’s Cherokee neighborhood.

According to the McDuffie County Coroner’s Office, the autopsy was done at the GBI Crime Lab, but the results are incomplete. The lab is awaiting tests, including toxicology results, which could take several weeks.

Authorities on Saturday said that Johnathan Curry, 36, was found shot to death just before 5 p.m. on the kitchen floor of his home on Pounds Street. The man charged in Curry’s death, Winston Orlando Smith, 21, appeared before a magistrate Monday, but a bond was not discussed.
