Man arrested after Augusta bar altercation

An intoxicated Augusta man was arrested on outstanding warrants Saturday after being thrown out of a bar and repeatedly trying to re-enter, claiming he had been beaten and robbed, authorities say.

According to an incident report, a Richmond County deputy arrived at Finish Line Cafe, 3960 Wrightsboro Road, around 10 p.m. as patrons were throwing out Warren Daniel Odom, 29.

Police said Odom, who was “overly intoxicated,” became belligerent with the officer but soon left with his mother.

Ten minutes later, Odom reappeared and tried to re-enter the bar. He told officers that three men inside had beaten him and stolen $600 from his pockets. The report states Odom admitted to being intoxicated and on heroin at the time.

Police explained his rights and procedures for obtaining warrants before arresting Odom for his own active warrants. During the process, police said, Odom became agitated and tried to flee before hitting a police cruiser and collapsing.

The men Odom accused told deputies that they were trying to help him up when he began yelling and swinging at them. They then escorted him out of the bar.
