Augusta man wanted after police chase

Columbia County authorities are looking for an Augusta man they say led deputies on a brief chase early Friday.

Richard Adam Germany, 39, of the 1700 block of Powell Road, is wanted on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving without a license, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

A deputy patrolling Wrightsboro Road near Reynolds Road about 1:30 a.m. saw a dark truck behind Bellevue Baptist Church. As the deputy approached, it drove quickly out onto Reynolds Road, according to a sheriff’s report. The deputy turned on lights and sirens, but the Dodge Dakota didn’t pull over.

The truck stopped briefly at an intersection, then sped along Lewis Road to Gordon Highway. It circled through a neighborhood on Willhaven Drive and came back out to Gordon Highway and Powell Road, according to the report. Germany drove on the shoulder briefly before jumping out and running into a wooded area, the report said.

Deputies interviewed the passenger, who identified Germany as the driver, according to the report. The passenger wasn’t charged.

Anyone with information about Germany’s whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (706) 541-2800.
