Augusta woman to serve 2 years in prison for knife assault

An Augusta woman who cut her best friend because she didn’t help out in a fight pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Thursday.

Tamika Gilbert, 20, attacked Fantasia Lambert with a kitchen knife on April 22, 2011. Lambert suffered cuts on her face and arm.

Gilbert pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court. Judge Michael N. Annis accepted a plea negotiation for the assault case. Her two-year sentence will run concurrently with two years Gilbert must serve for violating the terms of her probation for an earlier theft conviction.
