The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a reported rape on the Gracewood campus of East Central Regional Hospital, authorities said.
According to a GBI report, a 41-year-old woman reported she was attacked by a male employee on campus the morning of Dec. 15. GBI Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan said the woman is a Gracewood patient who works part-time at the campus.
“It was during her time at work that she said this incident occurred,” Morgan said, adding that authorities were notified Thursday, more than two weeks after the assault was alleged to have occurred.
Morgan said the woman identified her alleged attacker, but no charges had been filed as of Tuesday.
State officials said they notified police as soon as the incident was reported to hospital administration.
“We notify GBI immediately as soon as any allegation of abuse or misconduct is reported to us. That’s what happened in this case,” said Tom Wilson, the director of communications with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
