Murder trial begins for Augusta crime spree suspect

A trial began Monday for one of three young Augusta men facing charges of murder, rape, assault and armed robberies in a 2010 crime spree.

Hector Torres, 19, was still in high school when he was arrested. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in Richmond County Superior Court. His trial is expected to take several days.

Torres; Hamlet H. Per­domo, 25; and Michael Rewis, 21; are accused of killing 56-year-old Carl Bush Sr. on Sept. 11, 2010, on Reynolds Street in downtown Augusta.
