Man's ex-wife vouches for burglars

A man returned home to find out his ex-wife of 10 years had given two men permission to take items, including a grill, from his deck. She even assured police it was OK when they stopped by to check about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Officers were sent to a home in the 3600 block of Kentwood Drive to investigate a “suspicious situation,” according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report. The responding deputy said he found two men removing some items from the deck.

The men told police they had permission from the owner, and to prove it, they phoned the homeowner’s ex-wife, who came over and confirmed their story.

About 12 hours later, homeowner David Hall, 53, called police and reported the items stolen. He told deputies his ex-wife could not give permission to anyone to take things from his house.
