Man shot after discouraging gun violence

An Augusta man told Richmond County deputies he was shot Sunday after telling another man not to shoot a burglar.

Donald Gross, 52, of the 1900 block of Tobacco Road, said he overheard a heavyset black man with short dreadlocks talking about shooting someone who had broken into his house.

Gross told the man that was the wrong thing to do, and the man shot him in the leg, according to an incident report. The shooting happened in the 2400 block of Amsterdam Drive.

The shooter was last seen running on Amsterdam Drive toward Madrid Drive.
