An Aiken man was killed in a shooting Wednesday morning.

Aiken County authorities were called about 1 a.m. to Aiken Regional Medical Center, where they found two men, according to police.

The victim, 27 whose name was not released, was fatally shot in the head. Morris Dorch, 25, who was not injured, told police they had been driving near Balltown Drive and Jack Jones Street when one or two people walked toward their vehicle and fired several shots.

Authorities had not made an arrest in the shooting by Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Troy Elwell, of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, said the shooting appears to be drug related. Elwell said the unidentified victim, has a short criminal history. Dorch was a suspect in the 2007 slaying of 20-year-old Prince E. Shand Jr., who was fatally shot with an assault rifle. The case was dismissed in 2010 for lack of evidence. He is currrently out on bond for a February arrest where he was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
