Arrest made in Aiken shooting

Kevin Jamell Walker, 23

One person has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery and shooting in Aiken, authorities said.

Kevin Jamell Walker, 23, of Clearwater, was arrested Tuesday at his home in connection with an armed robbery last week at the Knights Inn on Richland Avenue, Aiken Public Safety Cpl. 1st Class Jeremy Hembree said in an e-mail.

He was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

On Oct. 23, Aiken Public Safety officers were searching for a gunman and a man who was wounded during a shooting at the hotel. Everyone fled the scene, so details of the incident were unclear, Hembree said.

“We still don’t have a victim,” he said. Walker was not cooperating with police, he said.

A witness told officers there was a fight in the stairwell between several men before a shot was fired as a result of the robbery.

Police were searching for a gray Mitsubishi convertible with a black top that left the scene after the shooting.
