Man charged in SunTrust Bank robbery

Eddie Garnett, 32, of Augusta, was being held in the Richmond County jail Thursday night on a charge of robbery by intimidation.

 

A man was arrested Thursday night and charged with the robbery of SunTrust Bank at 1631 Gordon Highway earlier in the day.

Eddie Garnett, 32, of Augusta, was caught by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service about 9 p.m. at a hotel in the 3000 block of Washington Road, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier.

Garnett was being held in the Richmond County jail Thursday night on a charge of robbery by intimidation.

About 11:30 a.m., a man entered the bank wearing sunglasses, a black knit hat, black T-shirt and dark jeans and threatened to harm the tellers if they did not turn over the money, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser.

The man then jumped over the counter, took the money and ran.
