A 22-year-old Augusta man remains in jail after he fired a stolen weapon several times into the air downtown on Saturday morning, police said.
According to a police report, a deputy was driving downtown shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday when he heard gunshots. The deputy found the source in a parking lot at Eighth and Reynolds streets, where he saw a man fire about three shots while hopping and skipping.
The suspect, identified as Aqwane Rasaun Reeves, of Cheryl Avenue, tried to conceal himself from the deputy before being taken into custody.
Police said the Falcon .38 Special had previously been reported stolen by the Thomson Police Department.
At the jail, Reeves made several comments to officers that they “took his favorite gun from him and that he was sorry for the incident,” it was reported.
Reeves was booked on charges of reckless conduct and theft by receiving stolen property.
