Woman, 69, tied to chair in failed robbery

A 69-year-old woman was tied to a chair while two men ransacked her office Monday, but after the robbers left, she was able to hop to a window and see their getaway car, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s incident report.

Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to Bransford Townhomes at 2933 Henry St., where an employee, Cornelia Verdery, told them two men had walked into the office and demanded cash.

When Verdery said she did not have any, one of the men took a gun out of his waistband and pointed it at her. She repeated she did not have any cash and the men sat her in a chair and taped her legs, arms and mouth. They ransacked the office before leaving.

Verdery said she was able to hop to the window and saw them leave in a small white car headed south toward Bransford Road, according to the report.
