Lawyer arrested after being banned from Brandon Wilde

Barry Steinberg

An Augusta lawyer is out of jail on bond after being charged with criminal trespassing in Columbia County.

Barry L. Steinberg, 60, was arrested by Richmond County authorities early Sunday after a sheriff’s deputy found him asleep in his car on Skinner Road, near Washington Road. Steinberg, a lawyer and retired accountant, was taken into custody after deputies found he had a warrant for his arrest from an August incident in Columbia County.

According to a Columbia County sheriff’s report, deputies were called Aug. 15 to the Brandon Wilde retirement community on Owens Road after Steinberg became belligerent while visiting his mother. Steinberg had been banned from the property and had been escorted off the premises by deputies in a previous incident, reports state.

Steinberg wasn’t arrested Aug. 15 because he complained of chest pains and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, the report states.

Richmond County authorities released Steinberg to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Monday. He was freed on bonds totaling $1,100, sheriff’s officials said.
