A 64-year-old man is dead after a shooting in the 400 block of First Street about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Joseph Williams, of First Street, was shot at least once in the torso. He was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital where he died about 6:30 p.m., according to Richmond County deputy coroner Kenneth Boose.
Ronald Bryant, who said he knew Williams for more than 50 years, said he thought the shooting was over an argument about pills.
“He was a good friend,” Bryant said.
Williams was shot in the parking lot of his apartment building, where investigators were taking pictures of a blue sedan that might have been involved in the incident.
Police said they are searching for a black male with dreadlocks who is wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts. He was last seen running toward East Boundary.
Williams’s death is the 22nd homicide in Richmond County this year.
