2 arrested after Aiken holdups, chase

Two Aiken men were arrested Saturday morning after two armed robberies, a police chase and a car crash.


According to the Aiken Department of Public Safety, a holdup was reported at 2:47 a.m. at Kangaroo Express on Silver Bluff Road. An hour later, another armed robbery was reported at Kangaroo Express on Richland Avenue West.

Officers pursued a car believed to be involved in the robberies into Jackson, where it crashed into the Savannah River Site barricade.

Carl Donte Johnson, 21, identified as the car’s driver, tried to run away but was caught and arrested, police said.

Brandon Marsalis Wilson, 18, remained in the car and was also taken into custody.

Both are charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Johnson is also charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren.
