A police vehicle was damaged during a chase that ended with the fleeing driver’s car in a retention pond Tuesday night.
At 7:17 p.m., police attempted to stop a car at Brown and McElmurray roads in Hephzibah, but the driver refused to stop. The chase lasted for almost four miles until the car ran out of road in the 1500 block of East Pine Ridge Drive and ran into the pond, Richmond County dispatch confirmed.
A police vehicle was smoking after following the car off paved road.
A 21-year-old was sent to the hospital with superficial wounds. Two children were also in the car at the time. No names had been released Tuesday night.
