Scam artists called South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. customers Wednesday demanding immediate bill payment or risk having their service disconnected.
According to a company statement, SCE&G warned other customers to be aware of phony callers posing as SCE&G employees.
SCE&G reminded customers that the company never calls customers demanding payments. Payments are only accepted at SCE&G business offices, by mail, online or through the SCE&G’s phone payment provider, BillMatrix.
The company said customers receiving suspicious calls can call the SCE&G customer service line at (800) 251-7234 for verification. Any customers victimized by the scam artists should contact local law enforcement.
