Jefferson Energy is asking its customers to not give personal information to callers claiming to represent the company.
Unknown callers have been scamming Jefferson Electric and Jefferson Energy customers by claiming the customers’ accounts are unpaid and their service will be disconnected if they do not pay immediately.
A company employee will never call or e-mail customers to gain account or personal information, according to a news release. Employees will also never accept payment in the field or ask to enter a customer’s residence.
All employees will have a valid Jefferson Energy identification card, wear a uniform and arrive in a clearly marked Jefferson Energy company vehicle.
If anyone suspects fraudulent activity, contact Jefferson Energy immediately with the incoming telephone number or a license plate number and description of the vehicle.
