Another Augusta YDC worker put on paid suspension

Another employee was put on paid suspension Friday at the Augusta Youth Development Campus.

According to a news release, Lt. Damian Wise was suspended with pay while investigators look into allegations of misconduct.

“The suspension means the lieutenant has been removed from a position of responsibility over youths in detention at the Augusta facility while the probe continues,” said Gale Buckner, the commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Since the beating death of a youth in November, nine Augusta YDC employees have been fired and two have been moved and demoted.

The DJJ is not disclosing the charges Wise faces during the Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into the facility.
