Augusta man, 19, shot to death Wednesday evening

A 19-year-old Augusta man died Wednesday evening after he was gunned down in the 2500 block of Drayton Drive, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said.

Webster Thacker, of the 3700 block of Warsaw Court, was shot at least once and slumped on the ground after deputies responded to Drayton Drive in reference to shots fired and a person down at 6:37 p.m., sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew said.

Thacker was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he died.

Investigators issued an arrest warrant for Ervin Cordarious Jackson, 24, of the 2500 block of Drayton Drive, charging him with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

 Jackson was in custody this morning, according to the Richmond County jail Web site.

This is Augusta’s 25th homicide of the year.
