Thieves take $1,200 in church children's change


Deputies were called to a Hephzibah church Tuesday after a pastor discovered $1,200 in change collected by the congregation’s children had been stolen.

According to an incident report, the pastor of South Haven Baptist Church, 4391 Peach Orchard Road, arrived at the church around 8 a.m. Tuesday and discovered a locked door had been pried open. The pastor told authorities a large plastic water bottle filled with change was missing. The change was being collected by the children for the Pennys for a Playground fundraiser.

Authorities estimate the burglary occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
