Suspect caught after Richmond County deputy run over

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has captured a man suspected of running over a deputy Thursday evening.

Hubbard Garrett III, 26, was wanted for one count of aggravated assault on a police officer, according to Capt. Scott Peebles.

Garrett is suspected of running over Lt. Robert West in a Surrey Center parking lot after West approached a suspicious vehicle while working an off-duty special assignment.

West remained in an Augusta hospital Friday morning and suffered a broken ankle, a fractured knee and nonlife-threatening head injuries.

Police also want to question 29-year-old Timothy Mack in relation to the incident.

Garrett and Mack are suspects in a string of car break-ins within Richmond County. Garrett has an extensive arrest history and has been arrested numerous times this year for vehicle break-ins and obstruction of the police, according to Peebles.
