Augusta man arrested in YDC death

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrested an Augusta man Thursday in connection with the Tuesday beating death of an inmate at Augusta Youth Development Campus.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office booking report, GBI agents arrested Michael Jarod Everidge, 17, at 3:41 p.m. Thursday at YDC on a murder charge.

Mike Ayers, the Special Agent in Charge at the Region 7 GBI post in Thomson, confirmed that Everidge, a YDC inmate, was arrested in connection with Jade Holder’s death.

Ayers said the investigation into Holder’s death remained open but would not comment further.

Everidge’s home address is in the 2400 block of N. Carolina Ave. in Augusta. Ayers did not know why Everidge was incarcerated at YDC.

Holder, 19, of Sylvester, Ga., died Tuesday at Medical College of Georgia Hospital of blunt force head trauma he suffered at the youth prison about 9 p.m. Monday.
