A woman paid for a $3 purchase with a counterfeit $100 bill Monday afternoon at LifeWay Christian Bookstore, 217 Robert C. Daniel Parkway, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
William Harold Perdue, the store manager, told deputies that when he went to make the deposit, he noticed a suspicious-looking bill. When he questioned his cashier about it, she remembered selling a $3 item to someone who paid with a $100 bill at 4:45 p.m. The cashier also gave the assumed name and phone number of the suspect.
Perdue made the deposit and was told by the bank that the bill was counterfeit. The bank then confiscated the bill, and reversed Perdue’s deposit. Perdue also told officers that Rack Room Shoes had also had a counterfeit bill around the same time.
The suspect was described as an Asian female, 5 feet 6 inches with a slim build, blonde hair, and wearing sunglasses, according to a sheriff’s office incident report, which was filed Tuesday.
Perdue said he would prosecute.
