Man charged in Augusta shooting fails to appear in court

A bench warrant was issued Wednesday after a man accused of taking part in the shooting of an Augusta man failed to make his scheduled court appearance.

Stanley Fields is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and two counts of criminal attempted burglary in connection with the Feb. 18 incident at the former Merrick Place Apartments in west Augusta.

The victim, Wayne Eggins, was trying to stop Fields and his co-defendant, Aaron Bey, from breaking into his neighbor’s house when he was attacked and shot in the head.
