Nightclub faces temporary closure after killing

The Peach Orchard Road nightclub where underage suspect Deontre Hubert is accused of killing Edward Yancy III in the year’s first homicide faces temporary closure by the Augusta Commission.

According to Sgt. Richard Elim of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office vice division, Club El Fiesco owner Daniel Magna had allowed “numerous” underage people inside the 21-and-over club early Jan. 1, when Yancy was killed.

Magna, club manager Michael Richardson and promoter Christopher Stump each have previous citations for allowing underage people inside, while Magna was cited in 2011 for violating Augusta’s adult entertainment ordinance, Elim said.

The city’s public services committee voted Monday to suspend Magna’s alcohol and business licenses for 90 days and place the club on a year’s probation. The matter goes before the full commission next week.
