Body identified in Aiken fire

AIKEN — Aiken firefighters responding to a house fire on Columbia Avenue early Thursday morning found a body inside the home.

The victim has been tentatively identified as Thomas Jerome Butler, 71.

He was a resident of the house at 466 Columbia Avenue and had been living there about two weeks.

According to a news release from the Aiken Department of Public Safety, responders found the body shortly after midnight at 466 Columbia Ave. NW.

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division will also be involved, the release said.
