Olivia Hannah expected a quiet New Year’s Eve at home. Several hours before midnight, however, she went into labor, a full three weeks before she was due.
A half-hour into the new year, she delivered a healthy girl at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Arianna Green, who weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces, became Augusta’s first baby born in 2012.
“They came in and told me and said, ‘Isn’t it exciting?’ ” said Hannah, 22. “I was like, ‘Wow. This is good news.’ ”
On Sunday, Hannah sat with her new baby; 11-month old son, Zion Hannah; and boyfriend, Dujuan Green. Nurses arrived with a gift basket of blankets and toys for the family. Dujuan Green, the girl’s father, proudly explained that he picked out the name Arianna.
“It’s wonderful to me,” said Green, 22, who works in home construction in Aiken. “They said she wasn’t supposed to be here until the 22nd.”
That would be Jan. 22, Hannah said.
Early or not, they’re glad their baby is healthy, Hannah said. And they’re thankful for the staff.
“I love it here at MCG,” she said. “They took real good care of us.”
Soon, Hannah said she hopes to return home to take care of Arianna and her older brother, Zion, who is just getting used to the baby.
“He’s jealous already,” she said, laughing.
