School year to begin in Aiken, Edgefield counties

The first bells of the school year will ring in Aiken and Edgefield counties this morning.

Aiken County Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Everitt said she has great expectations for this school year and the students.

“My expectation is that our students are going to do the best they can throughout the year,” she said.

More than 115 teachers this year are first-time educators or new to the district. Of those, about 25 will teach in the North Augusta

Everitt and the district’s senior management will be out in the schools observing the first day and welcoming students in addition to new faculty and staff.

“The first day is always exciting,” Everitt said. “We’ll try to go to schools in all corners of our county.”
