2 Columbia County students are 1st class of 'Chronicle' High School Reporters Academy

Two high school students have started working in the first edition of The Augusta Chronicle’s High School Reporters Academy.

Joyce Sanchez, 17, is a senior at Grovetown High School, and Ana Whitehouse, 17, is a senior at Lakeside High School. They were selected from a pool of about 20 students from the Augusta area who applied.

Readers can expect to see articles with Sanchez and Whitehouse’s bylines in the coming weeks, both at augustachronicle.com and in the print edition. They also will learn other skills such as shooting photographs and videos.

The academy is designed to provide students with a taste of what it’s like to be a journalist. They work two days a week for just a few hours in the office. The academy lasts 12 weeks.

Other students who might be interested in taking part in a future academy should watch for announcements in The Chronicle and at augustachronicle.com.
