Susan A. Winsor, the president of Aiken Technical College, was recently elected to the Executive Council for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the college announced Thursday in a news release.
SACS is the recognized regional accrediting body for colleges and universities in the 11 Southern states. Winsor was elected as South Carolina’s representative to the Executive Council by the Commission on Colleges’ Board of Trustees at its December meeting in Orlando, Fla.
According to the commission’s Web site, “the thirteen member Executive Council is the executive arm of the Board of Trustees with primary responsibility for interpreting Commission policy and procedure.” The Executive Council functions on behalf of the Board of Trustees when the board is not available. The Executive Council includes representatives from each of the Southern states, a chairman and a public representative.
Aiken Tech’s accreditation was recently reaffirmed for 10 years by SACS with no recommendations requiring further reporting. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees.
