As parents and children prepare for a new school year, they can take advantage of the upcoming sales tax holidays in Georgia and South Carolina for their shopping needs.
SOUTH CAROLINA: FRIDAY, AUG. 2-SUNDAY, AUG. 4
Sales tax exempted for clothing, clothing accessories, footwear, school supplies, computers and software, printers and supplies, bedding, and bath items.
Taxable items are jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches and furniture.
The exemption does not apply for items placed on layaway or similar payment and delivery plans; clothing or footwear rentals; and the sale or lease of items used in a trade or business.
GEORGIA: FRIDAY, AUG. 9-SATURDAY, AUG. 10
Sales tax exempted for clothing and footwear costing $100 or less per item; single purchases of $1,000 or less for personal computer-related accessories; and general school supplies listed for $20 or less per item.
Taxable items are clothing accessories such as jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches and watchbands, cellular devices, furniture, and computer-related accessories for recreational use.
The exemption does not apply to items used in a trade, business or for resale; rentals; and sales in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, restaurants or airports.
